One of the most important element in studying is to have complete focus. Having full focus helps students to understand the material in depth without any distractions. Because multitasking leads student to divide their attention between different tasks, its side effects directly influence students' grades and their way of studying. Students therefore easily lack correctness on the quality of their work. Because their thoughts constantly shift from one idea to another, their consistency is lowered due to distractions. Multitasking leaves nothing as a result but wasted time.
Some may say that multitasking helps students to attend to a variety of activities in a short amount of time; however multitasking ruins students’ time management because students eventually would have to use extra time than was planned. For example, when I started to memorize words while baking, I was not able to remember a word. The divided attention led to wasting more time than I expected to use. If I had had each activity focused, I would have finished them quicker. While multitasking promotes skills to do things simultaneously, multitasking delays the process of learning.
High school sdents should not resort to multitasking for schoolwork because it weakens the quality of work due to shifted focus between various topics, prevents students from having undivided attention that drives students to work efficiently, and does not help students to study with complete focus.
