Becoming an expert means to achieve one’s area or to be successful in a certain field. Many people have achieved their dreams with countless efforts and practices. My father studied for more than ten years to become a professor in his major, and he told me to remember success does not come without hard working and continuous efforts. Talent, sure enough, is a crucial element to be successful in one’s field of expertise. However, in order to achieve your goal, not only talent is needed, but motivation is one of the most important elements to become an expert in a certain field. For example, during many of my math classes, I had hard time understanding different concepts and solving mathematical problems, whereas my friend fully understood in depth and not even had to solve the practice problems. Test scores have always proved that he had talent in understanding math and I could not accept the situation that I was way behind my peer’s skills. Then I realized that I had no motivation to practice more and be confident of myself.
One day, I saw a video about Korean figure skater named Yuna Kim and how she became an expert in her own field. It was all about practicing and practicing because she wanted to be a champion in the future. As a famous quote says, “practice makes perfect,” I realized how lazy I was and regretted my attitude of blaming my lack of comprehensive skills. Every night, I went over the concepts and researched more for different solutions for each problems. It surely was hard and took a considerable amount of time, but then I started to see a progress. My math score proved that endless practices could overcome failure and bring success without necessary talent in math. If I had not seen the video of the Yuna Kim becoming a world champion, I would have been studying in an inefficient way that would not guide me into the success. Constant practices propelled by proper motivation help people achieve their goals of becoming an expert.
